Players To Watch
Chargers
Justin Herbert: The former Oregon Duck and first round pick has had a great start to his NFL Career. He broke many passing records in 2020 on his way to Offensive Rookie of the Year with stellar passing. However, he has been unable to make the playoffs in his two years as L.A. signal caller. Will this be the year?
Khalil Mack: Its been a long time since the Chargers have had a dominant defense but this year might change that. With the additions of Austin Johnson and J.C. Jackson, this defense is formidable but the addition of Khalil Mack may be a game changer. Khalil Mack is no stranger to this division, having previously played with the Raiders, but with a complete defense around him he will be able to run loose.
Chiefs
Creed Humphrey: The former Oklahoma center feasted in his rookie season last year. He allowed only one sack and was rock-solid in run blocking. He also graded out as Pro Football Focus's top rookie. However with the AFC West becoming a defensive arms race, it'll be interesting to see if he can repeat the same success.
Juju-Smith Schuster: Say hello to Mahomes new WR1. With the loss of Tyreek Hill, KC needed a new big name weapon and they got it in Juju. While the TikTok sensation had a tough 2021 season, the Chiefs are hoping he returns to his former glory.
Prediction
I think that the Chargers offseason improvements are enough to once again split the series. Mahomes and co. will struggle against this revamped Chargers defense and I think it's enough for the Chargers to take a game. I don't see LA taking both against the defending divisional champions but that's more than the Raiders and Broncos will likely be able to say.
Week 2: 28-24 Chiefs
Week 11: 31-28 Chargers
